Entertainment
Run, don't walk, to see " Peachtree
Battle", a
comedy written, directed and
produced
by Atlanta's own John Gibson and Anthony Morris. It's the longest running
play in Atlanta's history. Partners in life as well
as theater, these guys have written and directed several comedies including the
"Veranda" trilogy and "The Limosine Ride." The
Ansley Park Playhouse (1545 Peachtree Street 404-875-1193.)
The Fox Theater (660 Peachtree St., NE 404-881-2100) is a grand old theater that has been restored. There is an ever changing variety of touring Broadway shows, concerts and special events for you to enjoy while your gaze wanders up to the "starlit sky" and Moorish and Egyptian inspired surroundings.
Shopping
Most of my favorite stores are
in Buckhead, an upscale neighborhood of beautiful, old homes, yuppie bars, ritzy
hotels, high rise office buildings and expensive condos.
Bloomingdale's and Macy's
department stores as well as Needless Markup....er, Neiman
Marcus anchor Lenox
Square Mall on the corner of Peachtree and Lenox Roads.
Phipps
Plaza is across the street and features Saks
5th Avenue, Nike Town,
the Parisian, Nostrams and Tiffany's. There's
also a 14 screen AMC movie complex at Phipps.
Target, Staple's, Border's Books, Circuit
City, and Kinko's are two blocks
away.
I spend almost all of my time and $$ in Buckhead. But I love going to Outwrite on Piedmont Ave. and 10th St. Specializing in books that have a particular appeal to gay men, it has a stylish coffee bar and a comfortable sitting/munching/reading area. Lots of young men hang out there.... It shares a parking lot with Blake's, a preppie gay bar, and is across the street from The Flying Biscuit, a fun breakfast/lunch restaurant.
I
attend
The Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta
(next
to the High Museum on Peachtree St.) on most Sunday mornings. It's a new
thought church that
emphasizes intelligent thinking in creating our lives. Your
mother may have said "you are what you eat." We
say "you are what you think." Yes, lots of attractive gay men attend.
St. Mark's Methodist Church on Peachtree Street and 5th is a more traditional choice in churches that have large gay congregations. 12 years ago, St. Mark's had only a few members with one sparsely attended service. It's new pastor started outreaching to the gay community. Today, the church has been beautifully renovated and has two services packed with gorgeous men. It also has a wonderful choir and a "rainbow" Sunday school class. (I once attended a series entitled "The Gospel according to Designing Women"....)
Of course, you'll be coming to me for fabulous bodywork!!!
